Will it be a waste of time or money?
What if it disagrees with me and makes things worse?
These are all valid questions!
Kinetric Wellness is an evidence-based practice so we pride ourselves on educating our clients! Here’s what you need to know about Cupping Therapy.
What’s Up with Cupping?
How does it work?
The body gets rid of toxins and cell waste (like carbon dioxide) via the circulatory & lymphatic systems. Sometimes this junk gets stuck in our muscles and it’s hard for our body to get rid of them. causing pain and dysfunction.
That’s where cupping comes in!
Cupping pulls stagnation from these tissues and brings it to skin level. Circulation improves and removes this build up!
The cups are placed on the skin and a vacuum is formed. The decrease in pressure allows the tissues below to be lifted up.
This helps the tissue relax and soften faster, and activates production of fluids that loosen stiff joints. Metabolism increases within the skin stimulating sweating, flushing the capillaries, draining stagnant blood & toxins and resupplying vital nutrients.

The Experience
Cupping should feel like a light to medium pressure.
There may be some tenderness but no more than you may experience during a massage. If you're experiencing more intensity than you would prefer:
Don't be shy! Tell your therapist and they can make an adjustment.
Have you seen those red circles that people get after they get cupping?
These discolorations are not bruises.
They are the result of dead cellular debris, stagnant fluids, and blood poison from deep within the tissues being pulled to the surface. Discoloration can fade in a few hours or up to 2 weeks depending on the amount of stagnation moved based on the patients condition.
The color (or lack thereof) will give you and your therapist insight on what is going on in your body and how to pursue future treatment! As treatment continues, these marks will occur less and less as circulation increases. Cupping makes space for oxygen, living cells and nutrients to return to these depleted areas.
